Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been told that he can leave the club this summer, according to The Mirror.
What’s the word?
The England international is currently recovering from a broken leg, but there is a chance that he may not play for the Gunners again.
The Mirror claims that the North London outfit are willing to sell the 25-year-old this summer as manager Arsene Wenger cannot guarantee him first-team football this season.
It is believed that Sampdoria are interested in taking on the midfielder, but are only prepared to pay up to £6m.
The publication claims that Arsenal are unlikely to sanction another loan move for Wilshere as his current contract expires next summer, meaning that he could leave for nothing if he does not permanently join another club before then.
Where has it all gone wrong?
Wenger has previously claimed that he wanted to build a team around Wilshere, but the player’s injury problems have hampered his progress.
In the past four years, the Englishman has played in just 43 Premier League matches for Arsenal due to various issues.
In every season since the 2011-12 campaign, Wilshere has suffered with damaging injuries to his ankles, knees, feet and calf.
Last season when he was sent on loan to Bournemouth, he had a decent spell in the first team, starting 22 top-flight matches, but once again injury struck.
Wilshere broke a bone in his leg towards the end of the campaign, which resulted in a disappointing end to his spell on the South Coast.
It seems as though the midfielder will always be prone to injuries, and a club of Arsenal’s ambition cannot afford to keep giving chances to a player who cannot guarantee a full season.
Unfortunately, it’s time for Wilshere to open a new chapter in his career.
