The January transfer window was a strange one for Southampton. While Virgil van Dijk’s move to Liverpool had seemed inevitable since the summer, the club’s failure to spend the profits gained from his departure was certainly surprisingly – especially in light of the fact they’re now 18th in the Premier League table.
Saints did, however, attempt to arrest their biggest problem this season with a swoop for Monaco striker Guido Carrillo, who should add some much-needed firepower to a side that has scored just 25 goals in the same number of Premier League games so far this season.
That has left the south coast outfit with a total surplus of £51.12million for the January window (excluding future add-ons) according to Transfermarkt.
