Hugo Diaz’s time at Leeds United is over after he posted a heartfelt message on Twitter confirming that he is leaving Elland Road this summer.
Certain fans were surprised by the news as they expected the defender to have a future at the club due to his good performances for the U23s. The Spaniard captained Carlos Corberan’s youth team as they won the Professional Development League national title.
What’s the story?
Diaz confirmed on social media that his time playing for the Whites is over.
The 22-year-old had been a key man for Leeds’ youth team, but his performances seemingly haven’t impressed everyone as he now finds himself without a club.
It is unknown where he will go next after his departure from United.
Shouldn’t be surprising
The response on Twitter was that of shock from some supporters, but they shouldn’t be too surprised to see the Spaniard leave.
The youngster made only one senior appearance for the Whites, and at his age, you would expect that number to be higher if he was ever going to progress at the club.
It’s not as if Marcelo Bielsa didn’t have opportunities to give the defender a chance last season. Leeds’ centre-backs often had injury issues, but the Argentine always looked elsewhere for his solutions.

This summer the Whites have already been linked with a move for Ben White as a centre-back option, so it seems that the youngster was never in Bielsa’s plans.
Diaz seemingly isn’t rated by the manager, and with no breakthrough in sight, it makes sense for him to have left the club at this time.
