Consistency is becoming something of an obstacle that Brendan Rodgers is struggling conquer right now as the Red’s followed up a stunning victory in East Anglia at the weekend with a disheartening Europa League defeat on Thursday. After waiting until the sixth game of the seas0n to record a first Premier League win as Anfield boss there was a sense that the club were brought back down to Earth in mid-week as defensive errors and a lack of cohesion were to blame for another frustrating night. Ensuring his squad remains fresh and alert has been Rodger’s primary concern as he contends with the strain of European competition on top of the Reds’ domestic commitments. Locating and harnessing that much sought after rhythm will continue to challenge the Northern Irishman as he constantly chops and changes his starting lineup. There are already signs that the players are slowly but surely coming to grips with his philosophy and their ruthlessly efficient display at Carrow Road last Saturday was evidence of that. If they can replicate that every week the sky is the limit on Merseyside.

“I have no regrets over the decisions I have made. I am really happy I stayed. I am the captain of the club I love and this club means more to me than any other club out there. Of course I’d love a Premier League winner’s medal and that may have happened if I’d moved clubs but would that league title mean as much to me as the other trophies I’ve won here? No – fact.” Steven Gerrard says he doesn’t regret turning down a move to Chelsea
