The mid-season window will offer Celtic an opportunity to delve into the market to boost their chances of clinching their ninth consecutive title.
A recent report, however, suggests the Hoops will need to be wary of a former hero-turned-villain spoiling the party at Paradise if they end up going for ten in a row next season.
According to the Daily Record, Brendan Rodgers wants a reunion with Odsonne Edouard at Leicester City and is preparing a £30m offer.
The former manager is willing to put the offer on hold until the end of the season, though.
With Rangers beginning to pose a threat to Celtic’s supremacy, Neil Lennon simply cannot afford to lose any of his star players in 2020 and it’s no surprise the report has attracted plenty of interest on Twitter.
Such is the extent of the prolific Frenchman’s importance to the club, one fan suggested the Foxes will have to send Jamie Vardy, the tantalising Youri Tielemans and a healthy transfer fee to Celtic in exchange for his services.
Given Rodgers’ reputation in Glasgow, which was left in tatters following his decision to move to the King Power Stadium midway through the 2018/19 campaign, it’s no surprise that these fans have suggested a vastly improved offer is required.
These three supporters called for a deal in excess of £60m, with one suggesting a fee of £75m – the same price Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk – would be acceptable.
One supporter claimed he’d rather sell the club’s star striker to a different club for a cheaper price than do Rodgers a favour by sanctioning a sale, while another joined him in labelling the former manager a rat.
Finally, this fan suggested the club should ask for double the fee and request the signing of “El Dufflebag”, who we can only assume is Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos – aka “the buffalo”.
That would be quite some story in Glasgow…
In other Celtic news, a journalist has poured cold water over the club’s interest in a mooted centre-forward target…
